Malaysia has made travel much easier for Indian passport holders with its improved entry policies. Many Indians can now enter Malaysia without a visa for tourism, business, social, or transit purposes, and there are also flexible visa-on-arrival and e-Visa options for longer stays or specific entry points.
Visa-Free Entry for Indians (2025–2026)
As of 20 December 2024, Indian citizens enjoy a visa-free entry to Malaysia until 31 December 2026.
Under this scheme, Indian travellers can stay for up to 30 days per visit for tourism, business, or transit.
A key requirement is the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC): Indians must complete this online within 3 days before arrival.
Your passport should have at least six months’ validity, and you should carry a confirmed return (or onward) ticket.
Visa-on-Arrival (VoA) for Indian Citizens
There is a Visa on Arrival facility available for some Indian citizens — but only under specific conditions:
You must enter Malaysia via Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia or Brunei.
Your passport must be valid for a minimum of six months.
You need a valid visa or residence permit (single or multiple entry) from Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, or Brunei to be eligible for this VoA.
You must also have a confirmed return or onward ticket.
The maximum stay granted via VoA is 15 days, as per conditions.
There’s a fee of RM 200 for VoA when entering under these conditions.
Malaysia e-Visa (Online Visa)
If you’re planning a trip longer than visa-free or for a purpose not covered under VoA, the e-Visa is your next option:
Indians can apply for a tourist eVisa online via the official portal.
The processing fee includes an RM 105 processing charge, plus a convenience fee based on payment method (e-wallet or credit card).
According to recent sources, the eVisa cost is approximately MYR 155, which equals around ₹3,000.
Once approved, you should print a copy of your e-Visa (A4 size) and present it at the immigration checkpoint.
This visa is usually valid for 30 days’ stay, but check the visa grant letter for your permitted duration.
Transit Visa / Transit Pass
Indian travellers transiting through Malaysia may request a Transit Pass (maximum 120 hours / 5 days) when they meet certain conditions.
To qualify, you should have a valid visa or residence permit for a third country (e.g., the US, Australia, Schengen) or meet other immigration criteria.
The Pass is issued free of charge by Malaysian Immigration, but only at specific airports like KLIA / KLIA2, and only for certain airlines.
Notably, this pass cannot be extended beyond its 5-day limit.
Documents Required for Malaysia Visa / Entry (Indian Travellers)
Whether you’re applying for an e-Visa, arriving visa-free or via VoA, you’ll typically need:
A valid Indian passport with at least 6 months’ validity.
Scanned copies of your passport (first and last page) for the e-Visa application.
Recent passport-size photo (white background recommended).
Travel itinerary — confirmed return or onward flight ticket.
Proof of accommodation in Malaysia (hotel booking/address).
Sufficient funds (e.g., bank statements) to support your stay.
Completed MDAC form (mandatory before arrival).
Rules & Stay Duration
Under the visa-free scheme, Indian travellers can stay for up to 30 days per visit.
If you get a Visa on Arrival, you can stay 15 days, and under certain rules this may be extended.
e-Visa stay duration depends on the visa type issued, so check your visa letter carefully.
Important Tips for Indian Travellers
Complete your Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) on the official portal at least 3 days before travel.
Maintain funds proof and return tickets — immigration may request them even under visa-free status.
Apply for an e-Visa if you're planning a stay of more than 30 days or you want more flexibility than visa-free entry.
Avoid overstay: Malaysia’s immigration is strict, and visa-free or VoA stays cannot be extended casually.
For transit stays, ensure your onward visa or immigration status for the third country meets the criteria for a transit pass.
