Authorities in Meghalaya confirmed strict road rules for the popular event near Tura. The state expects heavy crowds for the Megong Festival 2025, held on December 5 and 6 at Bolbokgre–Watreigre, so police want clear roads and safe movement around the venue. The plan covers local traffic around Jengjal as well as long distance travel toward Guwahati, Shillong, and Williamnagar.

Traffic plan for December 4–7 in and around Tura

West Garo Hills Police issued a full road advisory before the event. Officers will control all vehicle movement in the Jengjal and Bolbokgre–Watreigre area and will guide drivers to marked parking spaces based on the event map. Police will fine any driver who leaves a vehicle in random spots near the venue.

Police also set a strict rule for heavy trucks. From 8:00 pm on December 4 until 6:00 am on December 7, heavy motor vehicles cannot use NH-51 between Anogre and Tura. This rule reduces large truck traffic and gives smaller cars and buses more road space during peak festival hours.

Major roadblocks and diversion routes

The advisory lists clear alternate paths for people who plan long drives these days. Travellers from South West Garo Hills and Mankachar in Assam, heading toward Guwahati or Shillong on December 5 or 6, should skip Tura and use the AMPT Road instead. Visitors coming from Baghmara in South Garo Hills should shift to the Siju–Rongjeng road.

People from West Garo Hills who travel toward Williamnagar, Guwahati, or Shillong should follow the Asanang–Old Williamnagar route. Officials also banned roadside parking from Bolbokgre–Watreigre to the Jengjal tri-junction from the morning of December 5 to the morning of December 7, so emergency teams and support staff can reach the site fast.

What visitors should know before starting

Police teams and traffic staff will work on the ground to guide cars, keep junctions clear, and help people find the right parking zones. They will also respond to any road issues that may slow festival movement.

For help, visitors can call the two helplines: 8837423053 and 9089199064, which the police shared in the advisory.

These controls may slow some trips, yet they also protect the overall visitor experience. Clear rules, planned detours, and strict parking checks reduce jams and cut stress for drivers who often face tight hill roads during big events. Officials frame these steps as part of a wider Tura travel advisory that supports safety, along with comfort.

Festival, tourism and local impact

The event stands out as one of the key Indian cultural festivals in the Northeast, with local dance, music, crafts, and food drawing crowds. The site near Tura also links well with nearby spots like Nokrek National Park and Tura Peak, which many guests add to their plans during the same trip.

Planners see the festival as a driver for Meghalaya tourism, since visitors stay in homestays, eat at local stalls, and hire local transport. Better traffic control, clear routes, and strict parking rules build trust among new guests who may visit the Garo Hills for the first time.

Final word for December travellers

These festival traffic restrictions not only manage cars; they also shape how people see Tura and the Garo Hills during a peak travel week. If visitors read the advisory, choose the suggested roads, and respect the parking rules, they gain smoother movement and more time at the venue instead of waiting in long lines of vehicles. In turn, the region strengthens its name as a safe and well-run stop on the map of Megong Festival 2025 and other future events in Meghalaya.
