Indian Techie Denied US Tourist Visa, Netizens Suggest Multiple Reasons
A 24-year old Indian IT employee working in an US-based fintech company was recently denied a US B2 tourist visa. She was planning to visit a holiday trip to NYC but her application was rejected by the visa officer in New Delhi despite having a decent and stable income of around ₹16 lakhs p.a.
While sharing her experience on Reddit, she mentioned that her application might have been rejected due to lack of international travel history. She also hinted that her young age might be one of the reasons as well. Now, she plans to travel several other countries first to build a good travel history that in turn would strengthen her case for a future US visa application.
It has created a buzz and debate on several platforms and netizens are flowing in with their ideas and opinions. Some suggested that the absence of travel history is the major red flag in her application, while others pointed out that visiting New York during the holiday season is extremely costly, further leading to the embassy's hesitation.
One user suggested her to first build a travel history with Schengen or Japan visas, while another user suggested steep costs of NYC travel as the main reasons for her application rejection.
This case came into the limelight because of another recent incident in which an Indian customs officer with ₹50 lakh savings was rejected for a US tourist visa, sparking debate over the unpredictable nature of visa approvals.
Generally, the US B2 visa is offered for short term visit plans such as tourism, family events or medical reasons etc. However, stricter immigration policies and closer scrutiny is now making visa approvals harder for new or young applicants. Applicants without extensive travel history would find it more difficult to get an approval.
